Mariachi Tierra Caliente, la pura alegria !!!
On 30 April 1986, Queen's day in the Netherlands, Mariachi Tierra Caliente started with three Mexican, one Colombian and one Dutch musician playing Mexican music as a "once off Mariachi band". To their own surprise, it was such a tremendous success that they were instantly invited for Radio and TV programmes and several other festivities. Apparently no one had heard this sound before ........ and so the story of Mariachi Tierra Caliente continued.
In 1991 Mariachi Tierra Caliente met with Maria de Lourdes, one of the most famous singers of Mexico.
This encounter resulted in a TV Special "Maria de Lourdes
en Holanda" and a CD titled "Maria de Lourdes en Holanda con el Mariachi
Tierra Caliente" followed soon after.
The solo CD's "Mestiza" (1993) and "Raices Mexicanas" (1996)
received positive critiques, which led to them being invited to further Radio
and TV programmes.
Carlos Fuentes, the well-known Mexican writer, made the following
statement when he heard the band for the first time in Amsterdam: "Mariachi
Tierra Caliente is the best interpreter and the most authentic representation
of Mexican music in Europe".
In 1996 Tierra Caliente was invited at the Festival del Mariachi
in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
They had the honour to open the Festival, and guess what .......? They became
one of the most popular mariachi of the year.
Now, 18 years later, Mariachi Tierra Caliente consists of 14 musicians
and although they still play traditional Mexican music, the musicians come from
all over the world (Mexico, the Netherlands, the USA, Finland, Hungary , Chile
and Cuba).
This variety in culture enriches the flavour of the music and enables a crossover
of styles.
Mariachi Tierra Caliente has no musical frontiers, thus improvisation comes as a second nature within the traditional sound. Experiments like Mariachi meets Jazz and Mariachi meets Salsa are only one of the few projects that are going to be explored in the near future. The ongoing enthusiasm of the public proved the power of Mariachi music.
So ........ tune in to one of our music clips and enjoy "la pura alegria!".
